Workspace build-out

The renovation of this office workspace included a new kitchen/bar, modular furniture, new carpeting and hanging ceiling finishes, and rolling whiteboard/pegboards. The drive between all these elements what that the space could transform to fit all types of small and large corporate functions whether it be individual work set-ups or hosted lectures with a bar and appetizers.

As part of the remodel, the client requested we design and build a modular set of lounge furniture. Using MC Escher’s transforming and geometric artwork as inspiration, I developed a set of seat and coffee tables that could be used as individual pieces to serve more casual work and relaxation, or act as an entire unit for gatherings and meetings.

I quickly moved into the process of prototyping to perfect the materials, angles, and overall scale of the pieces. We worked with an upholster to finish the seat cushion tops. Once we felt good about all of the details, production began using rift-sawn white oak (ply & solid wood) and 11-gauge steel plate. The final set included 10 lounge chairs and 5 square coffee tables.
